I love Maine; I
love its beauty and comfort. But when you think about it as a whole it’s so sad,
we are the 29th fattest states with every year going by getting bigger. We are
the second highest welfare state and we are the highest taxed state in the nation.
When tourists come here they see thousands
of miles of breath taking coast line, millions of trees and wonderful small
shops and businesses. They don’t see the low income housing, the huge landfills
and many closed companies. They go only to the area’s that cater to the
tourists needs, they are missing everywhere else. Our state needs to make hard changes
and become a state that people want to move to not just visit.
Sure, that's a way of setting up a contrast--not too many postcards showing the dark side of Maine....
