Week 10; Enlisting the reader; Opinion-

I don’t see how the schedule of a full time college student teaches them anything about what the real world is like. Really summers off, Christmas break and spring break. I don’t see that much difference between my 10 year old son school schedule and these adult age students. Shouldn’t they be pushed just a little bit harder than in high school?  I know high school is suppose to prepare us for college and as far as I know college is to get us ready for the working world. Well, the real world you get two weeks off a year not a semester.  How are these twenty-something year old adults understanding what will be expected of them if they aren’t shown?
I do understand that you can’t jump right into year round schooling but remember that you have at least 4 years that a student in taken classes. All you need to do is let each grade be a little different than the year before, it changes every year. Keep the freshman the same as it is right now, then the sophomore will be on the same break schedule with a shorter summer break, now the junior will also have the same break schedule as the freshman but a even shorter summer break then the sophomore and lastly the senior will have only a one week off for each break and two weeks in the summer. You may ask what will each student do with all this extra they could graduate early they could take more time with in a work study programs. There are endless options to fill that time.
Furthermore the students will be getting closer to understanding how the working world spins. I see and hear so many people graduating college with thousands of dollars of student loans and no job in sight. They don’t have the right expectations of what their options are. Also you have been told that with all the hard work you put into college, a job will be pretty much waiting for you right after graduation.
I do know my plan is flawed, but so isn’t the current schedule.  Being the person that never been a full time college student living on campus, I don’t know what it feels like to only have to worry about classes and studying.  I know College’s and University’s have been around for years and years maybe they have been doing it right this whole time or maybe times have changed to the point they need modify the system a little. With every debate comes another side of the story.
